Prof Bärbel Haldenwang from the Institute for Futures Research (IFR) at the University of Stellenbosch Business School is regularly providing updates regarding the prevalence of COVID-19, the latest report compares South Africa (and its provinces) to an African perspective (as on 25 August 2020).
Senior Futurists, Doris Viljoen points out that this report indicates:
- South Africa is still the worst affected country on the continent, followed by Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Algeria, Kenya, Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire
- Together these 10 countries account for 85% of all confirmed Covid-19 infections and 89% of all Covid-19 deaths on the continent
- Some countries in Africa are seeing a stabilization, and others even a decline in new infections.
